Polyommatus amandus (Schneider, 1792) Amanda's Blue, Vogelwicken-Blauling, Azure de la jarosse, Голубянка приятная, Ամանդա կապտաթիթեռ
Distribution and biological peculiarities in Armenia: The species has Palearctic distribution and occupies almost entire Eurasia. In Armenia, the nominate subspecies is recorded, being widely distributed throughout the country in humid mountain steppes, meadows, and woodlands at the elevations from 1400 to 2500 m a.s.l. The larvae is using various Leguminosae, such as Vicia spp., Lathyrus spp., and Medicago spp. The Amanda's Blue gives one annual generation having butterflies on wing from mid June till late july or even early August.
Population dynamics: The species is slightly uncommon within typical habitat and shows stable population trend in 2003-2013 (p>0.05). Probably the species adaptability and the opportunity of switching between host-plants helps Amanda's Blue to stand under overgrazing and uncontrolled mowing conditions.
Conservation measures: The species is not included in the Global and Armenia Red Lists, as well as in CITES and Bern Conventions, but is evaluated as Least Concern fort the European Red Book. In Armenia its status is supposed to be the same, especially because the distribution of the species id widely covered by Protected Areas, Emerald Sites, and Prime Butterfly Areas. Although there is no need for additional conservation measures, the monitoring of Amanda's Blue is necessary for tracking its population changes and the states of habitats.
