Limenitis reducta Staudinger, 1901 Southern White Admiral, Blauschwarzer Eisvogel, Le Sylvian Azure, Ленточник однорядный, Միաշերտ ժապավենաթիթեռ
Distribution and biological peculiarities in Armenia: The species is distributed in Northern Spain, South and Eastern France, Italy, the Balkans, and the Alps. Armenia is inhabited by nominate subspecies, which has a country wide distribution occurring in various deciduous and juniper woodlands, riparian forests, and scrubs, thus occupying elevation range from 1000 to 2200 m a.s.l. The host plant of Southern White Admiral is Lonicera spp. The species gives one generation per year, and the butterflies are on wing from mid May till late June depending on elevation.
Population dynamics: The species is slightly uncommon within typical habitat, and the males show territorial behavior. During 2003-2013 the Southern White Admiral demonstrates stable population trend (p>0.05), which is most probably resulted by tolerance of the host-plant towards disturbance and its adaptability.
Conservation measures: The species is not included in the Global and Armenian Red Lists, as well as in CITES and Bern conventions, but is listed in European Red Book as Least Concern. Preliminary assessment of its conservation status for Armenia, suggest the same one. Current distribution of the species is covered by number of Protected Areas, Emerald Sites, and Prime Butterfly Areas, and at current there is no need for additional conservation measures. Nevertheless it is important to continue monitoring of the species in frames of general Butterfly Monitoring Scheme.
